My experiments with Nokia Lumia 720

Hi Guys,
I am a lazy writer so please don't expect much details from here.
I am not going to repeat what is written everywhere.
If you want spec details, http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_lumia_720-5321.php
If you want hardware review and little overview, http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_lumia_720-review-919.php

So, what will be here?
Things which may not be there or something that you might want to know :)

First of all, I have a white L720 which is really beautiful piece of hardware with glossy back (other varients are in matt).

About Memory & Apps

Internal memory is 8GB (actual 7.2GB) but free space will be around 4-5GB only.
- 2GB is OS and other will be temp file which will be filled up by unknown factor slowly.

Windows Phone Store shows some size of application (like 10MB) for downloading, but be aware that, when it is installed, its size will be anything from downloaded size to 4x downloaded size.

Apps can NOT be installed in SD Card. IT can be installed from SD card but it will go in internal memory.

Offline maps will go into internal storage only.

You cannot have pirated apps. Store is secure. (at the time of writing, there is no proper breaking/rooting of WP8).

Battery Life
Phone has 2000mAh battery. Keeping the number aside and coming to real life...

I have a 2G connection (3G will have better battery life). I have configured phone for

  1. 1 Yahoo mail syncing at every 2hrs
  2. 2 Gmails syncing in Push fashion (as and when arrive)
  3. 1 Outlook mail syncing once a day
  4. 1 Nokia account
  5. 1 Facebook account
  6. Data is always on and I dont turn it off ever.
  7. WhatsApp is installed and running.
  8. I make/receive calls for around 1.5hrs a day.
  9. Wake the phone up to see time around 30-50 times a day.
  10. Music for 1.5hrs a day.
  11. Use net for around 2hrs a day. (including using twitter/Facebook apps)
  12. Uselessly play with phone for around 1-2hrs a day (you know you do that with new phone).
My phone's battery lasts generally for 30hrs.

- Using data is something that eats up battery like hell. Generally 10-15% an hour.
- Making Calls uses battery less. Generally 5% an hour.

At times, when I don't use phone much, it lasts for 50+ hours (keeping all the backgound tasks on and above 1-8 points still alive).

Currently my L720's battery is at 63% and it has been 28hrs since I unplugged from fully charged.
In the mean time, I used it for 1.5hrs of calling and 30min of net, and above 1-8 on.

Ok, my lazyness has started showing up now, so I stop here.
Will update more when I am out of my lazyness.

BUT, if you have any doubt before buying it, you can ask. I will try to reply without lazyness :)

Real map of current India...

Again came the time when some country invaded "Bharat" (India) and the impotent govt of India has nothing to do than speaking on the TV channel that they criticize the act.

I'm not writing this to abuse the govt of India. It will be total waste of time. They are anyhow sold to other countries and dumb people of India (my country) are still electing them (it may not be the real case that we are electing them, but may be some EVM malfunction as well).

Getting back to the discussion, a few things I would say before starting is
-I have not done extensive research on this.
-Whatever data was available, I made out some conclusion from that.
-While news channels/papers will surely not give the real story, but picking a few words from the story and connecting them by logic will surely give some answer.
-In case, if I am wrong somewhere, please correct me.

Ok. So 1st thing 1st.
What is map of Jammu & Kashmir that you know as Indian?
(If you access maps.google.com/bing.com/maps from India)
Two famous Map providers are Google and Bing. So we will take those references.

Google Maps: (https://maps.google.co.in/?ll=34.741612,77.080078&spn=10.913839,21.643066&t=m&z=6)

Bing Maps: (http://www.bing.com/maps/?mkt=en-in&v=2&cp=34.369503~78.650261&lvl=6&dir=0&sty=r&form=LMLTCC)

Now if you try to access Google/Bing Maps from outside of India (for now take China)
Then, it goes something like this.

What is map of Jammu & Kashmir that Chinese know?
(If you access maps.google.com / bing.com/maps from China)

Google Maps : https://ditu.google.com/?ll=34.560859,78.969727&spn=10.937524,21.643066&t=m&brcurrent=3,0x31508e64e5c642c1:0x951daa7c349f366f,1%3B5,0,1&z=6)

Bing Maps: ( http://www.bing.com/maps/?mkt=en-cn&v=2&cp=34.333222~82.012077&lvl=6&dir=0&sty=r&form=LMLTCC)

Aksai Chin is with China and not with India. Also have a look at those small dotted lines in little north-east of Chandigarh on Bing Maps. Even that is with China.

Now,

What is map of Jammu & Kashmir that Pakistanis consider?
(If you access maps.google.com / bing.com/maps from Pakistan)

Google Maps:(https://maps.google.com/?ll=34.506557,79.628906&spn=10.944618,21.643066&t=m&z=6)

Bing Maps:(http://www.bing.com/maps/?mkt=en-pk&v=2&cp=33.274279~74.079948&lvl=6&dir=0&sty=r&form=LMLTCC)

These were some snapshot of the Maps. Now lets see a few other maps of real condition of Kashmir. These may not include the recent invasion by China (April 2013).

Image from (http://trak.in/tags/business/2010/10/04/google-maps-yahoo-maps-kashmir-pakistan/)
Here, as you can see, Orange part is the one that India has, Green is with Pakistan and Red is China ruled.
With recent addition, China almost came 19-20KM more to India (aprox near to the parallel line near COK2).

Now, you would think, why these Maps are showing the wrong data?
-The answer is, they are not. What they show Indian is wrong, everything else is correct.

Then why they are fooling around Indians?
-The answer is, they are not. They showed the correct map earlier. Out impotent Govt couldn't hold the pressure from dumb Indians on question about the current condition and moreover, they want to fool around people of India so they ask(threaten) this provider to change or else they will ban the service in India.

Then who is right?
-The answer is, you decide. And to help you make the decision, lets see the maps closely.
(I will mostly use Bing maps now because it is clearer. But you can still Google maps and find same results. Also, I will use international maps thn incorrect Indian version)

1. Kargil : You might know that there was a Krgil War that India won. A simple logic would say that war should be some near, if not at exact location, Kargil. Lets have a look at map for that. ()

Kargil :  ( http://www.bing.com/maps/?mkt=en-pk&v=2&cp=35.113752~78.035633&lvl=6&dir=0&sty=r&where1=Kargil%2C%20Kargil%2C%20Jammu%20and%20Kashmir%20(state)%2C%20India&form=LMLTCC)

Here, the Blue dot is Kargil. The dotted line you see aboue Kargil is the current Indo-Pak border. The part above line is with Pakistan (POK) and below one is with India.

2. Baramula / Baramulla: This would also be heard name. Came in the movies. Zoom in a little to Kargil and move towards west side and you will see it. Pakis were here as well.

3. Highway of  Pakistan from J&K: Yes, it is there. And our govt say that it is not possible to make roads in those area (they cannot even make a proper one inside the country).
(https://maps.google.co.in/maps?q=kargil,+jammu&hl=en&ll=35.612651,74.674072&spn=2.701605,5.410767&sll=21.16705,72.822296&sspn=0.387391,0.676346&hnear=Kargil&t=m&z=8)

Have a look at the image above (or open up the link for a better view). Kargil is showed in bottom right (Marked 'A') for reference. Near to it, '1D' is written in Yellow background. That is Indian Highway. Now have a look at  center of the image. It has something like 'N35' written in blue background. Those are highways of Pakistan. Look at the connectivity of that to Pakistan. Bing Maps dont even show it.

If you go by the full highway (from Pakistan, in POK) with some more zoom, you will see that there are beautiful places around that highway. There are restaurants and resorts on the way, in the middle of POK. They even built bridges on the river. The journey only on map (with satellite view) is so exciting, I can't even think of how beautiful it would be to be there.

4. Highway of  China from J&K: The part "Aksai Chin" of J&K is due to Line of Actual Control which was finalized in 1993/1996 between India & China. Still India wants to show it in its own map. If you check this closely in Google Maps. It is somewhat like this.

Apart from this J&K part, even Arunachal Pradesh is also the one which is shown in map of China.
Lets have a quick view of it.

While I did know the words called POK, Aksai Chin, LOC, LOAC and also the issues of Arunachal Pradesh, I never knew those by Maps. When I saw it today, I was shocked to see that the parts India lost are so huge and so damn nice, it is just foolishness of Indian Govt to just sit idle and not take any action.

Some Links to refer (while I dont trust Wikipedia completely, this is just to get started)...

This blog will end abruptly because
  • There is nothing that I want to conclude...
  • There is not much that I can do as if now...
  • Bastards (Indian leaders) are not going to change, and same is with us (people of India)
Thanks for reading till this line.

With new Videocon A30

Hello guys,
Since long, there was a plan to get a new Android with a little higher specs then my current Samsung Galaxy Pro. After having a look at lots of Indian(you know from where it comes :) phones out there, I finally decided to go for Videocon A30. Other contenders were Micromax Canvas 2 and Karbonn A9+. Many reasons to go for Videocon A30.

Lets just have a look at spec.

Proc : 1 GHz Dual Core Snapdragon (MSM 8255)
RAM : 512MB

Display : 800x480, 4 inch, 5 finger Capacitive touch
Battery : 1450/1500mAh
Others : GPS, Wifi, 3G(1 sim 3.5G and other 2G)
Apps : Mobile office, Google Play, and some other
Camera : 5MP autofocus (touch focus available), 1.3MP Front,
720P stuttring Video, clear D1(480p) video

Storage
Internal: 1GB for Apps, ~1.5GB internal SD Card
External: Optional 32GB microSD

Now,
Coming to the look and feel, to be very frank, this looks stunner. A fine brick with nothing popping out from any side (not even camera). Front is black and Back is white.

Body feeling is just like that of Samsung/MMX plastic.

Display is as crisp as it should be.

Sound is not so loud but ok ok. Supplied earphones are junker then China Made Rs.100 one.

Camera is good and touch focus works great.

Android is 4.0.4 stock OS with some bundled apps.

I am yet to try Temple Run, but it works well as shown in one of the video on youtube. I tries all Angry Birds and they run great.

Battery lasts for
2 days with around ~30min of calling and no 2G Data.
1.5 days with around ~30min of calling and with 2G Data.
24 hrs with around ~3-4 hours of calling with no 2G.
5-6 hrs while gaming is on... :)

My write up ends here (as my blog says, I am a lazy writer) so sorry for that.

You can ask me any question and I will happily answer it. Answer will not be short like the article :)

Enjoy the Android...
